An example of this would be a psychologist who sees a patient for psychotherapy would generally not also be in a situation where that same individual is a student in their class. I've worked at university counseling centers that have as a matter of policy, always referred out doctoral students in psychology to prevent any opportunity for a dual relationship.

Hopefully you'll find a safe and supportive place to sort though the things that have been going on in your life. Having experienced depression isn't something the precludes a person from becoming a psychologist. Being a psychologist with depression may or may not represent an impairment that would prevent a psychologist from working. From an ethical standpoint, the clinical record is something patient's have access to in many (if not all) states. It is generally acceptable, if the clinical record might be upsetting, to either sit down with the client to review the record together or send the record to another licensed therapist that can sit down and review it with the client. There are also some specific rules about re-releasing information in the record that is gathered from other sources (e.g., it is often not possible to release a testing report that is sent to a psychologist from another source). A local expert on ethics (often available free of charge through a therapist's malpractice insurance) can help sort through the ethical issues. The clinical issues can be sorted through with someone that is experienced with children, loss, and adoption issues. Just after his 16th birthday, the boy suffered a reactive depression after his uncle’s death from a heart attack. Six months of psychotherapy had helped him to deal with the loss successfully and go on to study away from home. the boy’s aunt has died recently, and he has returned to have a few sessions with the same psychologist who had helped him when his uncle died. the boy expressed some interest in reviewing his records with respect to his prior treatment.
The problem is that the psychologist’s file still contains a developmental history given by the boys’s aunt many years earlier. This includes the fact (still unknown to the boy) that his mother had
been shot and killed by his father, who later committed suicide.
What should the psychologist do?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8975835436255022813.post-4818178237579506662015-05-02T16:10:56.034-04:002015-05-02T16:10:56.034-04:00Hello, Jason,

I was wondering: would an undergraduate psychology student jeopardize his future career as a therapist by revealing to a therapist at the counseling center at the university he attends that he has tried to commit suicide in the past and still has suicidal thoughts? I mean, what professor would recommend a suicidal therapist to a client (that is, if that student ever makes it into grad school after a number of professors in the psychology department know about his thoughts)?
Thank you,
SAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8975835436255022813.post-36066131899406101972015-04-26T22:32:01.309-04:002015-04-26T22:32:01.309-04:00Young at heart? The treated them as if they weren't human, they didn't take them serious, they didn't care about the care they were suppose to be giving to these people. Yes the patients here are just as human as you and I are. The treatment was terrible, we treat farm animals better, they at least have hay on the ground in the stalls, these patients had nothing but a bucket in their stalls, can't even call them rooms. Prison cells are better than what these people had. a huge part of the problem was lack of funding, and a lack of people who cared. It is really sad to see that the only time the "doctors" and "nurses" treated them human like was when they had talent shoes, they cared more about the fundraiser than anything else. They took these people and just made them out to be nothing, treated them horribly. I don't get how this was acceptable. They were completely stripped down to nothing both physically and mentally and were patronized. This is no way to treat a person especially when they are not able to defend themselves. The cruelty from the staff in this institution was unbelievably uncalled for and I'm glad that changes were made to this place. I thought that this world was messed up now. To see how some of these people were treated was disgusting. I understand that there needs to be rules and consequences for those who don't follow those rules; however being put in a Asylum doesn't mean you get treated like garbage. I guess this is just another one of those cases where there needs to be a limit on things. Some of these people in this hospital I feel should be punished way more. The man who sexually abused his daughter should have been given at least 10 years in prison and forever banned to see his daughter ever again. There is a chance that little girl will never be alright. In a case where the man who had the post war syndrome you can't really say much. The guy fought for our country and because of his good deed, he had to witness friends and fellow troops die for our country. I can't imagine what that does to the human mind. Watching this film only makes me think about people that I know very well that are dealing with all different types of stress and depression and honestly I can say it worries me that I possibly could know somebody that can get as bad as some of the people in the film. It's terrible how people can treat each other so harshly, especially the people we consider to have less advantage than us. Especially in a place so close to where I'm living currently. I calmly explained that I would prefer to have about 15 minutes of adjustment before being transferred to another hospital bed, and they took it as disobedience. Any time I walked too slow for the nurses liking, they called security and had them drag me into a room and drug me again. They don't even tell you what they drug you with.
